After 208000 miles and 20 years the trusty 2.5L decided it was time to rest. So why not swap in a fresh reman!

Ordered a remanfactured long block from Advance and started the tear down. Didn’t take much to get the old motor out.

This clutch has seen better days.

The engine wasn’t the only thing wore out. Had to take a few days break to have a busted up 40 year old disk removed and some vertebrae fused.

Back on my feet, mostly, time to prep the new block. All nice and shiny.

Got it all back together and ready to wedge into that gaping engine bay.

And that’s all the further we’ve got so far. Couple more days work and she’ll hopefully be purr ing like new again.

I use to hate doing plugs on my old 2.5.

Damn dude use a engine lift next time less back breaking labor.

I had a B2500 with that engine.  I’m glad I sold it as soon as I got it running properly and got the CEL fixed.

My dad just had that surgery last friday. He is 72 and things were getting really bad. So far so good he is feeling better but now his leg is bothering him, the same leg he broke 25 years ago.

All I can say is make sure you got the intake man ifold correctly on before you put the engine in. Nothing ruins your day like putting the coolant in and having it run out the bottom of the engine bay because the gasket was wrong from the vendor. Especially when it is a Ford 2.3 shoehorned into a Opel GT lemons car.

Ouch on the surgery - glad it’s it’s helping with the pain.

Good for you man on the engine swap - my tech skilz end at washing and polishing paint.

25 years ago, they went after my spine through the back. of my neck. 22 staples long cut. 15 years ago they went thru the front to put a plate on 3 vertebrae . And since he cut in a crease, no visible scar. Doc showed me the wrench he used to screw the plate down with. It really was made by Craftsman! B ut not like anything from Sears.

TBH, I’ve been mostly a spectator and occasional  parts runner on the swap.  Mechanic friend is tackling most of the work.

Good luck to him, hopefully it gets better soon.  My biggest issue right now is weakness in both arms.  Having another MRI today to see if there is a problem or if it’s just normal spinal cord swelling that should go away.  Either way, I need to start physical therapy for it.
